Has the sight of a tiger ever moved you to tears? Or the sight of a peacock? Well it happened to me today. A visit to one of the biggest zoos in the country turned out to be a sad visit, atleast for me. Dirty cages, malnourished animals, unruly public.. It looked so sad. The idea of a zoo by itself is cruel. And to think that the animals are not well fed there is very very sad. Its a shame actually. The magnificient tigers and lions were lying down like unused sacks. Monkeys were begging the passers-by for food. Little kids were hitting deers, birds and rhinos through the bars. Where the f*** are the zoo authorities? Is this the way to treat animals? With such a vast area and innumerable funds available, I wonder why this is happening?

I have felt poor for many animals when I visited Vandaloor Zoo in Chennai...
I dont think I can ever forget what I saw there... A zoo keeper was taking like Rs.10 from visitors and he would poke either the Lion, Tiger or Cheetah which were behind the cage with a stick and make them roar. People used to get excited seeing the animal roar. We have such a sick attitude towards animals... Felt like letting the animal out of the cage and take their revenge...

@arpita: innumerable funds? No way.. very poor funding. And., of the little funding hardly 2% reaches the animals. The rest disappears on the way to the animals.

i don't like the concept of a zoo - no matter how welt kept they are, no matter how well fed the animals are.

last time i went was ages back when someone took me. when i have a choice - i avoid the place.

and welcome back. which zoo, btw?

fund go to various ppl :)

those monkeys may not be begging for food ... ppl are asked not to feed as the animals food likings are likely to change and lead to attacking humans ;)

I think animals would have a problem being caged more than being in a filthy place ... the wild can be much worse ... seen the movie "Madagascar"?

I wonder if a day will come when humans are caged in zoo's :-?
