Dear Dow Chemicals,

You have yet to compensate the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. You have a moral and financial obligation towards the victims and their descendants. How the hell are you are sponsoring the London Olympics? And just because the original plant was bought over by another entity does not entitle the new entity to go scot free.

Dear Indian Government,

Why is that you are ready to take steps against a person/ entity/ group only when the whole world creates a hue and cry? Lakhs of Indians are still physically and mentally affected by the exposure to the gas leak on that fateful night of December 1984. Your own citizens. Today is the 26th of January, our Republic Day. But I feel no pride. The real pride lies when the Government and its people work towards the safety and welfare of its citizens.

it is evident that he is not running short of money.. so its up to the Government to force and settle this down.. but does it stop him from sponsoring?? .. or am i missing something?

Sandy, many of the victims have not been adequaltely compensated by the Company. As well know, the effect of the gas leak still remains. Bhopalis are still suffering in hospitals, babies are born with deformities because of the accident in 1984. The Supreme Court reopened the case in order to make the Company liable for a higher compensation which the Company refuses to pay.They also claimed that they are not capable of paying the demanded compensation amount. Surely, if they can sponsor the London Olympics [no less] they are well enough to compensate for the accident they are 'responsible' for.

True, it is more of a moral obligation. The Olympics committee is being shameless to pursue with Dow Chemicals, and our Govt. is being shameless to eat up acquisitions from them. They say that victims have been settled but there are problems with the Govt. to see that the money reached the correct hands. I say we must protest and boycott.
One notable thing is "Meredith Alexander" had resigned. She definitely passed a message. I hope that is for a good cause and not for some other business motive.

Hi A, it was so wrong of me to say we must 'boycott'. Thinking of all the sports personalities and the preparations that would have gone in to being selected to represent the country boycott is such a stupid idea of mine. Instead there should be other ways of protesting and making the world know what the protest is for. Example: All personalities will wear black band, or say will not stand up on the podium to receive the medal etc., that will send a strong message to the world of the injust.

@ P n P- Very true. It is not the fault of those who have spent all theri years training for the events and to punish them for someone else's fault is cruel and purposeless. Instead, like u suggested, the participants could voice their protest in a different manner.

There are some moments in life when you actually feel that your childhood (probably not the right word) has come to an end. When you feel you cant behave like a brat and expect people to say- oh she’s just a kid. Being the youngest in my family and also at my work place, I never thought of myself as a grown up. Even when I started earning. Yesterday I met one of my closest friends & childhood playmate. She’s getting married and leaving the country in a few days . I knew it all along but when I said bye to her yesterday , it finally sunk into me that everything is changing. The house where we spent countless days playing choppu and other invented games is going to belong to someone else soon. God, I’l never forget those days. And it’s horrible to know it’l never come back.
